    WHAT IS THE JESSICA LUNSFORD ACT (JLA)?

    The Sarasota County School District is committed to keeping our students and staff members safe.

     

    All employees, student teaching interns, vendors, consultants and contractors will need to submit fingerprints and undergo a background check.

    On May 2, 2005 the Jessica Lunsford Act was signed into legislation. This Act provided several safeguards to protect Florida's children from sexual predators. In addition to toughening the regulation of registered offenders, this Act expanded the background check requirements for school districts to include all contracted workers and consultants. This law enables the school district to better protect the children in its care.

    In addition, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement agreed to implement a database to track arrests of school district employees and contractors and notify the school districts when an employee is arrested. This new tracking system will help ensure that the children in our schools remain safe.

    HOW DO I COMPLETE THE SCREENING?

    1. Call Sarasota County School Board at (941) 927-9000, ext. 31132 to make an appointment for Fingerprinting. 
    2. Everyone coming for fingerprinting must bring a Driver's License (or other valid government issued photo I.D.) Appointments are required.
    3. The charge for Contractors and Vendors being fingerprinted is $93.85
    4. We accept Visa, MasterCard or Discover. If paying by money order or cashiers check, have the document made out for payment to The School District of Sarasota County. Cash is NOT Accepted
    5. After confirmation of screening, return to pick up your badge.  Email or text a photo of your badge to the GCBOA Secretary.

    Alternately for Manatee County:


    1. Call Manatee County School Board at (941) 708-8770 or go to the Manatee Schools website for more information.
    2. Email or text a photo of your badge to the GCBOA Secretary.

    Alternately, for Charlotte County:

    1. Call Charlotte County School Board at (941) 255-0808, make an appointment for JLA Fingerprinting. 
    2. Bring a CASHIER'S CHECK or MONEY ORDER ONLY for $93 for the JLA Fingerprinting and Badge.
    3. After confirmation of screening, return to pick up your badge.  Email or text a photo of your badge to the GCBOA Secretary.
